Final week of term 1.

16 October 2026 (by Sonia Coles (scoles))

It has been a fun, exciting and busy week, with Science and Parents’ Evenings all rolled into one!

Science: This week, the children have been learning all about rocks, and we will continue exploring this fascinating topic next week. The children have learned how sedimentary rocks are formed and carried out a porosity test on three different rocks, using their scientific skills to ensure a fair test. We also explored how metamorphic rocks are formed by combining dark, milk and white chocolate and applying heat and pressure. This was a fun, hands-on way to bring our learning to life!

Next week, we will continue our rock exploration by learning about igneous rocks, fossils and soil.

Maths:

Maths: We will continue to develop our addition and subtraction skills before moving on to measuring length. The children will have opportunities to practise their calculations and build their confidence in solving problems.

Topic: We will be wrapping up our current topic this week, reflecting on what we have learned and celebrating our new knowledge.

Homework: Please continue to support your child with the following: Daily times tables practice. daily reading, maths homework sheet and weekly spelling practice.

Finally, thank you all for your continued support. It was lovely to finally meet you all during Parents’ Evening and to catch up with you about how your child is settling into Discovery. It has been wonderful to hear how they are getting on, and I really appreciate your time and support!
