Emotional Literacy and Relationships
Zones of Regulation
At Nettlebed we teach a curriculum of emotional well-being as part of our PSHE provision. We do this using The Zones of Regulation written and created by Leah Kuypers. It is a research and evidence based curriculum. This is given dedicated time during the week and is threaded through other lessons and life in school beyond the classroom. It is also visual on the playground.
The Zones of Regulation provide a framework from which to allow children to learn a full range of emotions, understand that we all experience them and try to build some strategies to move between them. The aim is that children become more adept at self-regulation and understanding the impact of their actions on others.
Please do feel free to use the resources below to help support your child at home. These are all resources we use in school which your teacher or Mrs Greenwood will happily talk to you about further should you wish.
Restorative Justice
New to 2020 is the Restorative Justice programme at Nettlebed. This has been offered and rolled out to all schools across Oxfordshire. Restorative Practice is about building relationships and maintaining relationships. It sits alongside discipline procedures and consequences for actions. Where there has been some harm of some sort, it aims to give closure and seeks to repair some of the harm and support the child in finding ways forwards.
It has been proven to increase attendance, decrease exclusions and lead to a better state of well-being. It allows participants to feel some closure to an incident.
