Week Ahead In Discovery 12.10.269 October 2026 (by Sonia Coles (scoles)) |
What a lovely week we have had in Discovery Class! The children have really enjoyed their treat time throughout the week, and it has been wonderful to see them working so hard.
English
The children have worked hard all week to produce some fantastic kenning poems. We have also explored the origins of kennings, looking at how these poems came about during Norse times. The children have thoroughly enjoyed this style of poetry and have even expressed an interest in having it as part of their homework! It has been lovely to see their enthusiasm and creativity shine through their writing.
Science
Over the next two weeks, we will be dedicating our learning time to our new science topic: Rocks. We will be developing our scientific vocabulary, learning about the different categories of rocks and exploring examples of each. Of course, we will also be conducting some interesting experiments and investigations to help bring our learning to life. We are looking forward to an exciting couple of weeks of scientific discovery!
Maths
We will continue with Unit 3: Bridging 100. Our focus will be on counting forwards and backwards in tens, as well as adding and subtracting multiples of ten. Please continue to practise these skills at home to help build confidence and fluency.
Parents' Evening
Parents' evening will take place on Tuesday and Thursday. I am really looking forward to meeting you all and having the opportunity to discuss how your child is settling into Discovery Class. It will be lovely to share how they are getting on and talk about their progress so far.
Homework
This week, please continue to support your child with the following: Daily reading for pleasure, ideally incorporating VIPERS questions to develop their comprehension skills, maths worksheet provided, spelling practice, times tables and a kenning poem, if your child is particularly keen and would like to challenge themselves.
Thank you, as always, for all your support and encouragement at home.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend, and I look forward to seeing you next week.
