Week Ahead In Discovery 28/09/2625 September 2026 (by Sonia Coles (scoles)) |
The children are definitely getting used to the routines and expectations of KS2, and they have been working incredibly hard.
English
This week, we have started writing an informal letter to either a family member or a friend, letting them know that we have made it to safety following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The children are working hard to make their letters interesting and engaging by incorporating adjectives, imperative verbs, contracted apostrophes and our weekly spelling words.
The children will continue working on their letters into part of next week, giving them plenty of opportunity to develop and improve their writing.
Next Thursday, is National Poetry Day! To celebrate, the children will take part in a live lesson and will also have the opportunity to write their own poems to share with the class and across school. We are looking forward to seeing their creativity shine!
On Tuesday, we will also be very excited to welcome our Community Police Officer, Sue Haynes. Sue will be reading a story to the children about PC Ben: The Clown Who Took to Flight. We are sure the children will enjoy listening to the story and learning more about the important work our community police officers do.
Maths
In Maths, we are continuing our unit on securing place value to 100. The children are also beginning to apply their understanding of place value when solving addition and subtraction calculations and problems.
Homework
In your child's book bag, you will find their homework for next week. This includes: Spellings to practise for next week's spelling work, SPaG homework focusing on contracted apostrophes, Maths homework linked to the learning currently taking place in class. Regular reading and times tables practice.
As always, regular reading and times tables practice at home is a must, and your continued support makes such a difference to the children's learning and progress.
Thank you for your continued support. Wishing you all a lovely and restful weekend!
