Week Ahead In Discovery 8.6.265 June 2026 (by Sonia Coles (scoles)) |
What a fantastic start to Term 6! The children have returned to school full of enthusiasm and excitement, ready to learn about our new topic: Ancient Egypt.
It has been wonderful to see so much interest already, with some children carrying out their own research at home and bringing in books, facts, and homework to share with the class.
English
This week, the children took part in a very exciting practical lesson where they had the opportunity to mummify their own tomatoes! Following this hands-on experience, they wrote a set of instructions explaining the mummification process. The children worked hard to use clear and precise language to ensure their instructions were easy to follow.
Next week, we will be moving on to persuasive writing and will be writing a debate based on the question:
"Was it better to be a Pharaoh or a slave in Ancient Egypt?"
Maths
We have begun our new unit on Time, which is often one of the trickier maths topics. The children have started learning how to tell the time accurately and will continue developing these skills over the coming weeks.
Please can I encourage you to support your child at home by practising telling the time to the nearest minute using an analogue clock. Homework has also been set to reinforce the learning taking place in class.
Afternoon Subjects
Our afternoon subjects have continued as normal, and the children have shown great enthusiasm across the curriculum.
