Week Ahead In Discovery 11.05.26

8 May 2026 (by Sonia Coles (scoles))

Today, we had three very positive and enthusiastic Year 4 children speak to all of the children in Discovery about their experiences at the Hill End residential trip.

They spoke confidently about all of the exciting activities and reassured the Year 3 children that there is nothing to worry about.

This week, the children have also been busy writing their own short stories, creating imaginative characters and settings inspired by our topic on settlements. It has been wonderful to see their creativity shine through as they developed exciting ideas and thoughtful descriptions.

Science

In Science, over the next two weeks we will be focusing on our plants unit. The children will be conducting a variety of experiments and learning all about the importance of the different parts of a plant and how they help plants survive and grow.

Maths

We will continue our learning in Geometry, with a focus on the properties of shape. The children will be exploring and identifying the features of both 2D and 3D shapes.

Homework has been set on Atom Learning to reflect the learning that has taken place in class this week.

The printer has finally been fixed, so spelling lists for the following week have now been issued.

Hill End

A reminder that on Tuesday 12th May at 3:45pm in Discovery, there will be a talk about the Hill End residential trip. There is also an online link which has been emailed to everyone should you wish to attend virtually.

Quad Kids

Pease could permission slips be completed and returned by 12th May 2026 for the event taking place on 19th May 2026.

Please could I also ask that children continue to practise their times tables regularly and read for at least 10 minutes each day, as this makes a huge difference to their confidence and progress across the curriculum.

Thank you for your continued support and wishing you all a lovely weekend.
