Week Ahead In Discovery 27.04.26

24 April 2026 (by Sonia Coles (scoles))

The sun has been shining all week, and it has been a wonderful second week back in Term 5. The children have settled in beautifully and have been working hard across all areas of the curriculum.

In English, over the past two weeks, the children have gathered information about the village of Nettlebed, developed their vocabulary through our topic question, “Are all settlements the same?”, and created their own persuasive leaflets. They have shown great enthusiasm and creativity in this work. Next week, we will be writing a diary entry based on our visit to the Nettlebed Estate. The children will be incorporating all the SPaG skills they have learned so far and applying them in their writing.

In Maths, we are close to completing our unit on Fractions B. The final lesson, which focuses on fractions and reasoning, has proven particularly challenging for many of the children. We will revisit this lesson next week before completing an assessment. Please ensure your child completes the appropriate homework set to help enhance and secure their understanding. Regular times tables practice remains essential.

Homework:

  • SPaG booklets have been sent home this week. Please ensure your child completes page 22 and returns it by Wednesday at the latest.
  • Reading for pleasure should take place daily for a minimum of 10 minutes.

As the weather continues to warm up, please ensure your child comes to school prepared with sun cream, a hat, and possibly sunglasses. A fresh bottle of water should also be brought in each day.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend, and we look forward to seeing everyone on Monday.
