Week Ahead In Discovery 2.3.2627 February 2026 (by Sonia Coles (scoles)) |
Great start to Term 5! The children are enthusiastic about our exciting new topic on the Ancient Rome. It has been wonderful to see their curiosity already.
They were also incredibly brilliant during their swimming session today and behaved very maturely – we are extremely proud of them!
English:
This week, the children wrote a conversation using direct speech between Romulus and Remus, based on the myth of how Rome was founded. They worked hard to punctuate speech correctly and really enjoyed bringing the characters to life.
Next week, the children will be writing a poem about a Roman soldier using their five senses — sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell. We are looking forward to seeing their descriptive language and creativity shine through.
We will also be celebrating World Book Day in school on Thursday 6th March 2026. Children will have the opportunity to dress up as their favourite book character. Miss Wall has organised a fun-filled morning, and the children will enjoy hearing a range of different stories together.
Maths:
We have begun our new topic on fractions. We are taking this slowly and carefully addressing any misconceptions to ensure the children build a secure understanding. Please could I insist that your child continues to practise their times tables daily, as this will greatly support their learning in this area.
Homework:
-
Spellings have been issued.
-
SPaG booklets have been handed out.
-
Maths homework is set on Atom Learning.
-
Daily times tables practice.
-
Reading for pleasure is a must every day.
Our Roman Day experience will take place in school on 11/03/26. Please be advised that there is a charge per student, payable via ParentPay.
Thank you all for your continued support. Wishing you a lovely weekend!
