Week Ahead In Discovery 19.01.2616 January 2026 (by Sonia Coles (scoles)) |
It has been a great second week of Term 3 in our class. The children have been highly engaged and enthusiastic as we begin our topic on Antarctica.
They have been absolutely wowed by the videos showing the breath-taking landscapes and the fascinating animals that live there. It has been wonderful to see their curiosity grow as they ask thoughtful questions and share their excitement about this icy continent.
English:
The children have explored the features of a formal letter and taken part in class discussions about the types of questions they would like to ask a scientist who is temporarily living and working at a research centre in Antarctica. They have learned that letters are not received directly in Antarctica; instead, their letters will be sent to the British Antarctic Survey Research Centre in Cambridge.
Please find in your child’s school bag a copy of a mind map showing the types of questions they should ask the scientists, along with a few example ideas. This will greatly support your child in writing a comprehensive and well-thought-out letter.
Maths:
We are continuing with Unit B on multiplication and division. Regular times tables practice is essential to help embed learning and support problem-solving skills.
Reading:
Following the VIPERS meeting led by Miss Wall and Miss Roberts on Thursday morning (open to parents), please find the VIPERS prompts attached on the class page. These can be used to support reading at home.

Class Book Review Journal
We are bringing back the class book review book! Each class will have one shared journal, and children will take turns to complete their review, one week per child. There are examples inside for inspiration, but we encourage creativity! Illustrations, diagrams, or unique layouts are all welcome. -

On the Office door, you’re children will find a Book Suggestions Table where they can write down their recommendations. This will help us build a diverse and exciting range of books for our school library and classroom book corners.
