Week Ahead In Discovery 12.01.269 January 2026 (by Sonia Coles (scoles)) |
We would like to wish all our children and families a very happy and healthy New Year. It has been wonderful to welcome the children back after a lovely two-week break.
Geography
This week, we launched our exciting new geography topic: Antarctica – Why would anyone live there?
The children have shown great enthusiasm and curiosity about this extreme continent. A big thank you to those children who researched Antarctica at home and shared brilliant facts along with their beautiful drawings. These have really enriched our learning.
English
In English, the children have written a setting description of Antarctica, using:
-
adjectives
-
adverbs
-
similes
-
metaphors
They worked hard to make their writing descriptive and engaging.
Next week, we will be writing a formal letter to a scientist working in Antarctica, asking thoughtful questions about life, research, and the research centre there.
Maths
In maths, we are continuing with Multiplication and Division – Unit B, focusing on building confidence and fluency.
Weather & Outdoor Clothing
All children must continue to come to school in full school uniform with correct footwear.
As the playground may have excess water, children are welcome to bring welly boots and outdoor wear to change into for playtimes.
Homework
Please continue to support your child with the following:
-
Reading for pleasure – 10 minutes daily
-
SPaG booklets
-
Antarctica research
-
Maths practice on Atom Learning
-
Times tables on TTRS
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend and a great week ahead!
