Week Ahead In Discovery 22.09.25

19 September 2025 (by Sonia Coles (scoles))

Massive congratulations to Discovery for winning the class treat, as they have worked hard to earn it so quickly.

Class treat

Soft Toys – All children may bring in a named soft toy from home. These will be collected during lesson time to avoid distractions but will be available during breaks

Slippers/Comfortable Footwear – Children are welcome to wear slippers or other comfy shoes inside the classroom

Friday – Children may come in non-uniform (please ensure clothing is weather-appropriate). We’ll also enjoy a relaxed afternoon together to end the week.

English

This week and next, our focus is on writing a setting description about the City of Pompeii. Children will be drawing on their previous and current SPaG learning to enrich their writing. We are encouraging detailed, well-structured, and neatly presented work.

Maths:

We are continuing with our topic on Place Value. Please support your child at home by ensuring they can: Count confidently from 1 to 1000Count in 2s, 5s, 10s and recognise the patterns in counting 20s, 50s, and 100s

Practise times tables daily (this makes a huge difference!)

Soon, we will be moving on to addition and subtraction, so securing place value skills now will help build a strong foundation.

Homework:

Work sheets on partitioning (no Atom Learning), spellings, reading and times tables.

Visitor:

We are very lucky to have PCO Sue Haynes visiting us in class and to talk about being safe and online.

Residential:

The Year 3s and 4s will be going to Hill End in Oxfordshire in June to stay in bell tents for 2 nights. The Hill End trip is £180 and the deposit of £30 is due by the end of March 2026.
In order to secure your child’s place please pay the deposit on time. We will be adding it to ParentPay so you can pay it in any small chunks you wish. Funding is available for both if you are in receipt of free school meals or a pupil premium family although they will always ask you to pay the deposit. Please do see the school website or speak with our home school link worker for more information on this.

Thank you, as always, for your support at home. It really helps to strengthen what we are doing in class. Wishing you all a good weekend.
