This Week ...Next Week in Investigator

25 September 2026 (by Sarah Roberts (sroberts))

We've had a super week of hard work and learning and today a lovely treat afternoon, enjoying the sunshine and having fun and games in the walled garden. What a great way to end the week!

Geography Topic and English Writing

This week has seen the children considering the effects of climate change on population. We have started the process of writing an explanation text thinking about the various elements that impact population on a global and local scale. There have been some insightful comments as children refelct on what we have learned about the topic. Next week they’ll continue writing these.

In the geography lesson next week, we will begin planning a fieldwork inquiry to investigate the effect of the local population on littering and traffic.

Next week’s key vocabulary:

impact - The influence one thing has on another.

quantitative - Involving a measurement or amount.

qualitative - Involving a description of judgement or opinion.

air pollution - The level of harmful gases and dangerous particles in the air.

noise pollution - The level of disturbing noise in an environment.

Likert scale - A method of rating responses and opinions.

Maths

Y4 have been reviewing everything they know about addition. They have shown good understanding of the concept and the language associated with it. They have represented addition in various ways and demonstrated clear understanding of the written column method of calculation. The have convinced me that they are well on the way to mastering this important skill. This week we have started reviewing subtraction and this will continue next week.

From Miss Ravenscroft:  Y5 Maths this week has again been looking at place value and how to partition hundredths into part-part-whole models. Over the last couple of weeks, I have been able to see how the children's understanding of place value has increased and developed into more complex knowledge. Well done to all for persevering through some of the trickier questions.

Homework:
