Term 1, Week 4

25 September 2026 (by Alice Fletcher-Single (afletcher-single))

Dear parents and carers,
This week Endeavour have been using their knowledge from our topic on population to create explanation texts. Focusing on formal writing and using and subject-specific vocabulary, they have written informatively and should be proud of what they have produced so far!
Huge congratulations to our Year 6 House and Vice-Captains! Getting stuck in immediately with these highly respected school roles, they have been liaising with Mrs Greenwood this week. Keep showing the rest of the school what fantastic role-models you are and we can't wait to see your assemblies!
Those in Year 6 who ran but weren't elected, I have been incredibly impressed with the way they have conducted themselves.  It takes a resilient, mature attitude to congratulate friends whilst perhaps feeling a little disappointed, so huge well done - it hasn't gone un-noticed.
Year 5 have been discussing the nest ways to deal with friendship conflicts in PSHE. They worked in small groups to role-play different scenarios (most of which occur daily at school!) and 'performed' in front of the rest of the class. Their ideas and resolutions were wonderful - full of empathy and kindness.
Thanks you to Eli who kindly brought in some Tin-Tin books for Year 6 to enjoy this morning! Our class text this term has given us such wonderful, new experiences. Sherbet lemons, pomegranates and Tin-Tin, so far. Their engagement and enthusiasm with this book has been such a joy.
Next week, Endeavour will start work on data collection to explore how population impacts the environment for Geography.
They will also begin our D&T project on playgrounds!
Thursday 1st October is National Poetry Day 2026. We will be watching a live poetry performance from Michael Rosen on that day and I'd like to invite the children to bring in a poem or poetry collection of their choice. I will be reading a variety of poems and the children will have the opportunity to create their own.
Homework this week for Year 6 is on Atom Learning for maths. English is to read chapter 14 of our class text. There will be questions relating to this chapter on Monday morning. I don't mind whether they read this themselves, or have it read to them at bedtime. Even at this age, they enjoy being read to and if it takes away any pressure for them at the weekend, this is absolutely fine.
Spellings for next week have been given out today.
Please see the Round-up from the office for important dates for your diaries.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend. As always, please get in touch should you have any queries or worries.
Kind regards,

Mrs F-S

From Miss Ravenscroft: What a fantastic week it has been in year 5 for writing!! This week the children have been working on non-chronological reports on how and why population changes, and it really shows just how much they have learnt so far in our topic. The children have written with such maturity and understanding whilst also including parenthesis to add more detail! Well done year 5, it's been a pleasure reading all of your reports so far.
Maths this week has again been looking at place value and how to partition hundredths into part-part-whole models. Over the last couple of weeks, I have been able to see how the children's understanding of place value has increased and developed into more complex knowledge. Well done to all for preserving through some of the trickier questions.
Homework:
English- please read chapter 12

English- we are trialling English homework on ATOM so please find this week's homework on there

Maths- on ATOM learning, please do encourage your child/ren to complete this as it is really helpful to know which areas need a little more work on
Spellings- new spellings have been given out ready for next Friday's test
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!
