Welcome to your child's very first week in Adventure Class at Nettlebed School! 

Although our first week is a short one, we hope to make it a truly lovely few days- children will spend time getting to know one another; the class adults Miss Freeman and Mrs Day; exploring their new classroom and getting to grips with some of the school routines. They are sure to be tired by Friday but there will be lots of time to both relax and play in equal part.

To give you a taste of this week's routine and what we will be doing I have outlined our plan for Wednesday; and a more broad overview of Thursday and Friday. Each week on this page you will get an overview of the week (albeit less detailed than this week) and you can keep up to date with activities and foci the children will have. 

Wednesday:

8.40-9.00: Children arrive at the gate to be met by Miss Freeman or Mrs Greenwood- taken to class to jump straight into playing time. Children will be shown where their pegs, drawers and water bottles will be.

9.00-9.15: Introduce the children to sitting on the carpet and finding a space, take our first register and introduce our 'class timetable' that shows what we are doing throughout the day. 

9:15-10.10: Free play in the classroom with Miss Freeman and Mrs Day modelling different activities and getting to know the children. 

10.10-10.30: Class snack time sitting at the tables. We will learn our snack time routine, how to make sure we are sitting safely and chat to our new friends and teachers.

10.30-10.50: Playground and break time! Explore our playground and equipment, get to use some of our outdoor toys.

10.50-11:00: Circle Time; this is usually our maths slot so we will sing some counting songs and rhymes together to get used to the routine.

11.00-11:20: Free play in the classroom.

11.20-12.00: Lunchtime down in the hall with Miss Freeman and Unicorns Class. We will start to understand our lunch time routine and expectations and enjoy some yummy food.

12.00-13:00: Playground and lunch break! Lots of time to run around and let out our energy.

13.00-13.15: Children to join back on the carpet for register time and a 10 minute phonics circle time! We will sign our alphabet song and play some phonics games.

13.15-14.30: Free play time! Mrs Day and Miss Freeman will have some name recognition and writing activities set out to get the children starting to recognise their names confidently and have a little go at writing them.

14.30-14.50: Outside afternoon break!

14.50-15.10: Story time on the carpet together to end our day. Share some of our favourite story books we might like to read in the coming weeks.

15.10-15.30: Practice and support children with the end of the day routine, collecting their belongings, packing their bags and singing the goodbye song ready to go back to their adults!

Thursday and Friday

Thursday and Friday we will continue to embed routines, explore spaces in school and really become comfortable in our classroom with our peers and teachers. Miss Freeman and Mrs Day will place themselves in specific class areas (e.g. the art zone) to model and demonstrate the ways we can use these resources, and how we can keep them tidy and safe. 

We will try to have a daily maths and phonics circle time to get used to this being a part of our daily routine, but they will be short and sweet to build up that learning stamina! We will also have short circle times to start talking about our class rules, our feelings and our interests- complimented by a majority of time playing. 

We will do our very first piece of book work, drawing a picture of ourselves and attempting to write our name. It is a really special piece to refer to at the end of the year when children have come so far- they often love looking back to when they first started.
