Unicorn Class Term 6 Week 428 June 2026 (by Rebecca Fenwick (rfenwick)) |
Unicorn Class Blog Term 6 Week 4 Week Commencing 22nd June 2026
Wow, the Unicorn class children have been amazing this week. It has been so hot outside but they have enjoyed the cool air from the air conditioning units and having ice pops. The Unicorn Class have loved exploring their seaside theme this week, some children shared their experiences of going to the seaside. We have been thinking about what we would take to the seaside, pretending to get our basket ready and going to the beach. We loved making ice-cream. We listened carefully to the instructions, we thought the condensed milk looked like runny honey and was fascinated how the ingredients got thicker whilst it was being whisked. We loved trying our ice-cream after it had been in the freezer, we were impressed with the taste and how it looked different from when we put it in the freezer. We have had an ice-cream parlour using playdough and have been making ice-creams and lollies using paper, felt tips, lolly sticks and tape. We watched ‘A trip to the seaside’ which used makaton signs, on the interactive whiteboard. We also enjoyed sharing ‘The Sea Saw’, we discussed the different emotions of Sofia and her teddy. We were also amazed by the teddy’s journey to return to Sofia. We used a paper plate, glue, sand, shells and tissue paper to make our own seaside scenes.
During phonics we have been rhyming, using alliteration, recapping all of the sounds we have learnt so far, orally segmenting and blending. We have been practising writing the letters, lots of us have wanted to use our letter knowledge to attempt to write on the small and big whiteboard, in note books and on their pictures. We have also enjoyed doing alphabet puzzles
During maths this week we have been doing lots of comparisons. We have been comparing the size of the animals in ‘The Sea Saw’ book, comparing different sized shells, playdough sausages, ice-creams, comparing model sizes, the height of people, which shell fitted the most/least jelly in and which one was the heaviest/lightest.
We have enjoyed going to the all weather pitch to practise for our Sport’s Day.
Next week we will be having a sports week, which will include designing our own medals, sports kits and we will continue practising for Sports Day. Sports Day is on Wednesday 1st July at 12.30 on the all weather pitch. The reserve date is Thursday 2nd July.
Please can you make your way around to the all weather pitch. Below is a list of your child/children’s house team, if possible please can they wear something this colour. Please do not worry if you do not have anything in this colour. Please can you make sure your child/children are wearing suitable footwear for the races.
