The Week Ahead ...8 May 2026 (by Abigail Winter (awinter)) |
To all our wonderful Highflyer families,
After celebrating Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday today (Friday 8th) next week, Week 5, our focus in geography will merrily switch to looking at human features found by the coast - and using Weymouth as our example. We shall be asking the question: How do people use Weymouth?; whilst also thinking about the man-made aspects of a town on the coast … and why people would want to visit there. Our writing/English will also be linked to our topic lesson – with an objective of writing an imaginative newspaper report based on a fictional event at the seaside – so any ‘old’ local newspapers which have made it into your recycling bins would be VERY gratefully received re: their layout, features, articles etc :)
Our usual spelling ‘quiz’ will take place on Monday as usual this week – with, hopefully, a little extra session – or two?!? - to continue our learning about the needs of plants and even waiting for some to germinate and appear re: Science Week Part 2!
Forest School continues on Wednesday morning, with P.E. on Thursday as timetabled; with a grateful ‘plea’ for any outstanding Group Reading books to be returned at your convenience; thank you SO much for returning some – but, unfortunately, there are still a couple outstanding … and we would appreciate it terribly if these could be reunited with the rest of their ‘class set’!
Our phonic focus for Week 4is /n/ phoneme spelt ‘kn’ or ‘gn’ (e.g. knight/gnat) with homophones of no/know – whilst in Maths we will be finishing off our unit of fractions before soon before moving onto 'Time'. Our mastering number focus continues to develop a deeper understanding of strategies to calculate and help problem solve as well – therefore, please do return our weekly maths homework at any point during each week for the ‘beginning-to-burst’ children’s folders :)
Wishing you all another super week ahead – as always
Mrs Winters and the H/F ‘Team’
