Term 5 Week 3 in Adventure Class

1 May 2026 (by Elle Freeman (efreeman))

This Week 27/04/26

Apologies for seeing few of you this week as I have been off poorly- a big thank you to Mrs Day and Miss Smith who have been manning the ship and giving the children a wonderful week. The class have been reading 'The Hundred Decker Bus' and designing their own deck to create our own class bus, using their imaginations to make it as creative as possible.

All the children have been doing a fantastic job with their writing this week, using their morning writing prompts to practice independent sentences with finger spaces and full stops. They have also been introduced to 'colourful semantics' which uses colours to specify word types (e.g. yellow for 'who/what' and orange for verbs)- this has helped them grow their sentences to include new vocabulary.

Our caterpillars are growing HUGE and we hope soon they will be cocooning!

Next Week 4/05/26

This week's sound is 'oi' as in 'boil'

Our Class reader is 'Too Much Noise'.

As the class readers increase in volume and length, please try not to worry if you are not completing the whole book every week. The text has become much complex and it is best to take it step by step and intermingle with fun books from home the children enjoy engaging with too.

In maths we will be rounding up and 'assessing' our understanding of subitising at this point in the year. We will get out the 'rekenreks' and be using these to help us with our maths going forwards.

We will be looking at magnets and forces, testing out pushes and pulls as part of learning about vehicles. We will also spend some time investigating and researching vehicles from the past.

Notices

As we head into our final term of reception, now is a really good time to begin trying to allow your child to make their own way to classroom from the school gate. We do encourage all parents to say goodbye at the gate to help children take ownership over their start to the day, and it makes it much easier for reluctant children to settle without parents coming into the classroom. Of course, should you need to chat with me or children are having a one-off wobbly day- please do feel free to walk them to class. However, it's great practice going forwards to try and get them to do this gradually by themselves and keeps the playground clear and safe in the morning.

It is also important that if you do need to drop your child off at the classroom that they are attempting to put their own belongings away- whilst you are welcome to visit the classroom, as a safeguarding precaution adults should not regularly be in the cloakroom without teachers.

We would really appreciate your support with encouraging this of your child/children, and helping them build even more independence before Year One. Thank you so much.
