The Week Ahead ...20 March 2026 (by Abigail Winter (awinter)) |
To all our wonderful Highflyer families
Unbelievably, next week marks the last few days of Term 4 - and very nearly Easter too!; however, our topic will culminate, very excitedly, by us looking at the Moon Landing in 1969 … including the significant individuals that made history on Apollo 11. We shall be learning about what happened, who was there, who was the ‘first’ man to step foot on the moon’s surface – including what he said! - and even how it might have felt to have been one of the astronauts touching down e.g. what they might have experienced :)
Brilliantly, our weekly Forest School session (10.00am-12.00pm) also continues on Wednesday morning; however, PLEASE do feel free to retrieve any ‘long lost/missing’ items from our Year 2 tough trays – just outside the Highflyer playground door - when you can … as we have, and I do apologise - built up quite a collection … again ;) … with our Performance Sport coaches duly arriving for our last T4 P.E. on Thursday from 1.30pm.
On a beautifully gentle note/reminder – I promise! - please feel free to send in/return any shared reader books which you might still happen to have at home – as am MORE than happy to pop them back into our central store … at any time!
Our phonic focus also concludes with Week 5 Compare: /y/ /ey/ sounds (including Common Exception Words of money, monkey and honey) alongside our revision of Homophones: to/too/two.
Maths will be simply finishing off our multiplication (and early division) unit – super stuff! - whilst enjoying some practical measuring (length, depth and width) to, hopefully, conclude our Science Week investigations before Friday lunchtime! Mass, capacity and temperature all feature in Term 5 … so here’s hoping for some more of this week’s glorious sunshine on our return :)
Our mastering number focus continues to help develop the children’s deeper understanding of strategies in which to calculate and solve ‘every day’ mathematical concepts – whilst applying them not only to relevant but ‘real-life’ contexts; with our final T4 spellings ‘quiz’ all set for Monday from approx. 9.30am.
A further opportunity to reflect on our Neurodiversity Celebration Week will also now take place on Monday 20th April – during our whole school assembly; whereby Mrs Burbedge shall be discussing with all the children (once again) the many great strengths of our friends whose brains work differently … including their tremendous creative thinking and beautifully unique qualities and talents :)
The arrival of Thursday morning helps us, as a whole school, to then celebrate our ‘Star of the Term’ assembly from 9.00am; with, as published, the End of Term readily upon us (1.30p.m finish/pick-up for pupils) ‘hot-on-its-heels’ by Friday afternoon …; although where did this term honestly go!?!
Wishing you all a truly lovely Easter and equally relaxing and restful holiday :) – especially with clocks “springing forward” on Sunday 29th!
With very best wishes – as always,
Mrs Winters and the ‘Highflyer Team’
