The Week Ahead

9 January 2026 (by Sarah Roberts (sroberts))

What a week we’ve had! It has certainly been an unusual start to the term with the icy conditions making life very difficult for everyone. However, the term must go on and the children have got on with business of learning and settling back into the familiar routines.

Why Do Oceans Matter?

Our topic work is firing imaginations already and I am looking forward to the coming weeks. This week we focused on identifying the oceans of the world and considered how people use them. Next week we’ll be finding out about The Great Barrier Reef. Please encourage the independent research that many children undertake – they have already asked so many questions and show a real thirst for knowledge and understanding. Why oceans matter is clearly a topic close to their hearts.

Outdoor clothing

It is a good idea to have a change of footwear for playtimes. When the snow on the playground does melt (hopefuly by next week) it is likely to be very wet out there. Please feel free to bring wellies or other boots to school to change into.

Fiddle toys

Please can I remind you all that fiddle toys should only be brought to school if your child has a particular need. The kind of fiddle toys that have been brought in recently are mostly distracting for the child and for those around them. Please do get in touch if you would like to discuss whether your child has a particular need.
