Welcome Back for Term 3!4 January 2026 (by Abigail Winter (awinter)) |
Happy New Year 2026!
To all our wonderful Highflyer families
We do hope you all have had a wonderful Christmas break with Mrs Shrimpton, Miss Smith and I wishing you all a very healthy and equally Happy New Year!
Welcome back – and straight into Term 3; hence a more detailed overview of our learning for this term … including our new geography focus which is entitled, 'Why is our World Wonderful?'. Through this topic we will be looking at nature, landscape and exploring the outdoors including our much-anticipated trip later this month to the Earth Trust (on Thursday 15th) which will help us understand this further. However, more details to follow I promise!
This week, our timetable will be running as before including Forest School on Wednesday morning with Mrs Mills and Outdoor P.E. (with Performance Sport Coaches) on Thursday afternoon etc.
Our phonic focus is: Week 1 Words ending in: -le/-el and learning the contraction: it’s; however, we deliberately won’t be sending home any new spellings until next Monday (12th) just to try to give the children a slightly more relaxed start back into things after a longish – but much deserved – break …
Maths continues each day with a new unit on addition and subtraction; including Mastering Number and multiples of 10s – with an emphasis on repeated patterns and recurring digits; with T3, Wk 1 Homework all ‘ready-to-go’/come home via planners on Friday (9th).
Please do, if at all possible, remember to provide some indoor shoes for changing into whilst the weather is particularly muddy/wet/icy?!? – and do feel free to leave a ‘weekly pair of wellies’ just outside the Highflyer Classroom if this is easier … as the blue bench has plenty of room – and is regularly tidied up by any kind pupil happy, at playtime, to pair them all on our behalf! MANY thanks …
On a final note, please do not hesitate to whizz me a quick line at any point if I can help further regarding anything coming up, in need of further clarification or just a general query – as always MORE than happy to answer any question – large or small … I promise :)!
With kindest regards – as always,
Mrs Winters
