The Week Ahead ... (beginning 15th Dec)

12 December 2025 (by Abigail Winter (awinter))

To all our wonderful Highflyer families,

As the final week of Term 2 is unbelievably upon us, the whole of ‘Team Year 2’ would dearly like to thank all our incredible parents (and carers) of Highflyer children for their continued, and delightful/unwavering, support since the very beginning of September – although where did that ‘Autumn Term’ go!?! However, for the children, any Autumn term can always feel like quite a long one; yet, to its great credit has a magnificent habit of brilliantly (and naturally) culminating in LOTS of fun and equally festive excitement! Even though your lovely children are, of course, very tired and now ready for their break we do know that they shall all still be able to have a VERY happy and GLORIOUSLY harmonious final week ‘together’ :) Heart melting stuff …

Our Term 2 topic has been really fascinating, and believe that the children have really enjoyed being able to understand how children’s lives have changed through the ages; although given the choice, I don’t think that many would now chose ‘Victorian Schools’ as a period of history that they would necessarily choose to live in ;)! Bless them …

However, it simply wouldn’t be possible to ‘round-up the end of this term’ without waxing lyrical about how beautifully the Year 2’s took part in our Lower School performances of Gabriel’s Big Break on Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning respectively; as we were just SO proud of them! There were – even with amongst our majority of non-speaking parts! - some impressive acting skills, inspirational dance moves and, perhaps more importantly, a great team spirit enjoyed, and commented on, by every audience lucky enough to witness them – including the whole school during our Dress Rehearsal. Special congratulations must, however, go to Lulu – who not only shone as one of our brightest stars – but even managed to dance ‘solo’ on top of a very wobbly haybale complete with tinsel ladened prop in her hands! Wonderful moments indeed … and know how VERY much all the children LOVED seeing you there … heartfelt thanks for joining us in this both precious and very magical ‘shared’ time …

This coming week …

Monday – ‘Elfridges’ … FONS ‘Secret Present’ Room!

As per this week’s Office Round-Up, The Secret Present Room will be open for all children to buy Christmas gifts for their loved ones throughout the day on Monday (15th). Presents will be £2.50 each; yet with a maximum of 2 per child please. There will be a super selection of presents to suit everyone, that will be carefully wrapped – we hope! – with all staff/parent volunteers on hand to help the children label them, safely store them and – in turn - ensure that they are ‘ready-to-go’ under your respective trees for the ‘big day’ ... Please do, therefore, send the correct money into class with your children first thing – if they would enjoy visiting the SP room … complete with their beautiful smiles and thrilling Christmas cheer!

Tuesday – Please do remind your children that it is the whole school ‘Wear your Christmas Jumper Day’ – even for staff/visitors! Although, please don’t forget the Christmas Jumper amnesty rail in the reception area – as this such a lovely, and kind, idea …) – as know we shall look truly wonderful for our Highflyer Christmas Lunch sitting from 12pm :) … followed by our much-anticipated class party in the afternoon!

Forest School will continue as normal on Wednesday morning therefore, please do pop uniform into a named bag (with indoor/a dry pair of shoes) for the afternoon – and shall endeavour to make sure that all outdoor clothing and welly boots make it ‘home’ for the hols!?!

Thursday at 9.00am – Final Assembly will celebrate our Star(s) of the Term awards, Mrs Greenwood shall be announcing the hamper raffle and – to conclude – the whole school will then remain together for our annual Christmas Carol Service/singing – ably assisted by our attending parents, invited visitors and, of course, marvellous Upper School’s voices from the back!

Friday will mark our ‘last day’ before the Christmas break; with school finishing at the slightly earlier time of 1.30pm … whilst still fondly wishing you all a very

…  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

With kindest regards – as always.

Mrs Winters and our festively jolly – yet equally fantastic - ‘Highflyer Team’ x
