The Week Ahead10 October 2025 (by Sarah Roberts (sroberts)) |
Two outstanding events this week
Y4 Girls Football
From Miss Ravenscroft: I would like to say just how wonderful this tournament was, the team spirit, the kindness shown to our own team as well as the other team and the overall positive vibes. All the girls gave 100% in every match, showed sheer grit and determination- even when the score lines were feeling unforgiving. Everyone picked each other up and ensured they felt they were still doing a brilliant job! Not one girl let their head drop and continued to show what Nettlebed is made off. Each and every one represented the school impeccably and I was truly proud of them today. Overall, the girls shone brightly!
Congratulations to all and well done to Clemence, Phoebe, Clementine and Esmae who were awarded Olympic Value medals for their skill, determination, hard work and sportspersonship
Henley Literary Festival - Journeys of Empire
We thoroughly enjoyed this live stream brought to us by the journalist and author, Sathnam Sanghera. It was a very interesting talk, which introduced us to this period of British history, notable for many things – some to be celebrated and some that serve as a stark reminder of darker periods in our country’s history.
Next week in English the class will be thinking about the narrative genre of writing. We are thoroughly enjoying King of the Cloud Forest and are going to write our own stories set in the Alps. Apart from drawing on geographical knowledge of the region, they will need to reflect on the literary devices that make a good read – how does Michael Morpurgo keep us enthralled by his story telling? What make us want to turn the page? Our character and setting descriptions will come in very handy, I’m sure.
Homework:
- English Skills – Test 2
- Reading – Finish Chapter 8 of King of the Cloud Forests
- Spellings – weekly spellings to learn
- Maths – Y4 Atom maths Place Value Y5 Atom maths – Written Addition, Written Subtraction, Worded Problems
PLEASE CHECK YOUR CHILD’S PLANNER FOR THE PARENTS’ EVENING SLIP.
Have a great week!
