Unicorn Class Term 1 Week 319 September 2025 (by Rebecca Fenwick (rfenwick)) |
Unicorn Class Blog Term 1 Week 3 Week Commencing 15th September 2025
This week we have had another fantastic week of fun, creative learning and exploring.
We have enjoyed listening to Handa’s Surprise, exploring the different fruits from the story, learning which animal took each fruit. We have used the puppets and fruits to retell the story and make up our own stories.
The pineapple, mango and banana were the most popular fruits when tasting the different fruits, some children liked the smell of the passion fruit but did not like the taste. We also made a fruit salad using some of the fruits from the story and some different fruits.
We looked at images by Giussepe Arcimboldo, showing how the artist had made faces using fruit and different natural objects, we discussed what the painter had used, which fruits we liked, did not like and then we created our own art work using fruits and vegetables.
During water play we explored different fruits and vegetables, pretending to make meals and pouring using different sized containers.
Outside, we have enjoyed running and chasing games, splashing in puddles, climbing, using the large sandpit, bikes and scooters, using the hoops, bats and balls and collecting acorns.
This week during maths we have had a main focus on comparing sizes using the vocabulary big, small, bigger, smaller, biggest and smallest and middle sized. We have been comparing a range of items such as fruits from the Handa’s surprise story, shells and teddies. Building train tracks has been popular this week. We have been working collaboratively to share ideas to develop our play. We made a very big track together and then decided we wanted to join all the trains and carriages together to make it very long. We enjoyed learning a new song about Handa’s hat and counting the fruits. We also enjoyed listening to ‘Baby goes to market’ by Atinuke and counting the different fruits baby was given and how many she put in the basket.
During phonics we have continued to do listening games such as what instrument is playing and rhyming games such as making Silly Soup.
This week we have also enjoyed using the Duplo, Lego, using the paint sticks, playing in the home corner, drawing and sticking.
Next week we will be continuing with our ‘All about me topic’ and having a ‘Little Red Hen’ theme which will include making bread rolls and growing our own cress. If you have any empty yogurt pots or small containers at home please bring them in.
Hope you are all having a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing you all next week for more exploring.
Best wishes
