Unicorn Class Term 1 Week 214 September 2025 (by Rebecca Fenwick (rfenwick)) |
Unicorn Class Blog Term 1 Week 2 Week Commencing 8th September 2025
This week we have had another fantastic week of fun, creative learning and exploring.
We have loved listening to ‘The 3 Little Pigs’, retelling it using the characters, straw, sticks and bricks and acting it out. We used paint, felt tips, pencils and collage materials to make pictures from the story. We loved making delicious pig faces using rice cakes, yogurt and fruit.
We looked at our faces in the mirror and carefully did observation drawings using paint sticks.
During Forest School we loved exploring, we noticed lots of acorns and apples. We were fascinated watching an apple floating, bobbing up and down, in a container filled with water. Marnie found a sauce pan to try and catch the apple. We then took turns to try and catch the apple. We learnt a new game, ‘Eagle eyes.’ We had to hide and the Eagle had to close their eyes and look to see if they could see us from their nest. If they spotted us we then went into the eagle's nest to help the eagle. We played ‘The three little pigs’ and went on the swings.
This week we have been using our good listening ears during listening walks both inside and outside to hear what sounds we could hear. Here are some of the sounds we heard; “I heard the drums, they went dum, dum, dum!”, “I heard children chatting.”, “We heard the telephone.”, “I heard the birds singing, they were high in the tree.” We have also played listening games on the interactive whiteboard, listening to zoo animals and working out what animal was making the sound in the box.
Although maths is being used throughout continuous provision for example in the home corner working out how many plates and cups are needed so that everyone around the table gets one. Our main focus for this week has been understanding and using prepositions such as ‘in’, ‘on top of’ and ‘in front of’. We have also been using a range of objects to develop fast recognition of up to 3 objects without counting them individually. We looked and talked about what we could see and what we noticed.
We have also loved climbing, using the balance bikes and balls outside, building with the Magnetic tiles, Lego, Brio trains, sand, sharing books and playing in the home corner and cosy area.
Next week we will be continuing with our ‘All about me topic’ and having a ‘Handa’s Surprise' theme.
Hope you are all having a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing you all next week for more exploring.
Best wishes
