Unicorn Class Blog Term 6 Week 6 Week Commencing 7th July 2025
Wow, what another exciting and hot week. We have loved cooling down with water and ice play. We have been fascinated by the patterns in the ice and how quick the ice has melted.
This week we have loved having a teddy bear theme, some of the stories we have enjoyed are ‘Goldilocks and the 3 Bears’, ‘My Friend Bear’, ‘Bumble Bear’ and ‘I will always love you’. We made bear masks and we made biscuits for our teddy bears picnic. We have been making our own sandwiches during snack time, using a knife to carefully spread the filling and cut our bread. We enjoyed having our teddy bears at school, showing them around and playing with them inside, around forest school and having a picnic.
Our maths focus this week has been making comparisons with size. We listened to Goldilocks and the 3 Bears and acted out the story. We have been cutting out bear pictures and putting them in size order from smallest to biggest. We have been using the Knex and Duplo to see if we can make wands and towers taller than us. We were also comparing each other's models.
During phonics we have been singing nursery rhymes, learning the Bingo song, using body percussion and oral blending and segmenting. We have also been singing the alphabet chant, playing Georgie's gym and recapping letter sounds.
Outside we have loved using the large loose parts e.g. tyres and crates to make trucks, police stations with jails and houses. In the sand pit we have been making and selling ice-creams, making mountains, exploring the sand mill and how it spun around when the dry sand went through it.
This week we have also enjoyed dressing up, playing in the home corner, painting, playing dice games and programming Beebot on the iPad to get to the flowers and treasure.
Next week we are having a pirate theme, this will include making maps, hats and searching for treasure. On Friday school finishes at 1.30
Hope you are all having a lovely weekend
Best Wishes
