Highflyer Class Term 6 Week 6

4 July 2025 (by Dorothy Wyatt (dwyatt))

The Crowning of William the Conqueror - 25th December 1066

What a fantastic sports day we had - the weather was just right!.  Congratulations to the winning team, Poseidon!

This week, our history topic is learning about 'What is a monarch was in the past?'.  We will be thinking about what a monarch was able to do a 1000 years ago and discuss what they do today.   Also this week we continue our science topic on mini-beasts - investigating their habitats and understanding what different environments they need to survive.

Forest School continues on Tuesday and P.E. on Thursday as timetabled.   This term P.E. on Thursday is athletics.

Spellings Test change

Spellings will be tested on TUESDAY this week and the last list of new spellings given out then. The following week, the final of the term, spellings will be tested on Monday, as usual.

They are reviewing the phonics taught over the last year - remembering the spelling patterns for differing graphemes that are similar in sounds.  These will be a selection from the past year so they are likely to include repeat words from before.

For the last two weeks of maths, we are completing our position and direction unit and having some fun with maths games and problem solving as well.

This week's temperature is expected to rise again to the upper 20 degrees.  Please don't forget sun-cream to be applied before school, a sun-hat and a full water bottle.

Enjoy your week and keep cool.

Mrs Wyatt and Mrs Winters.
