Unicorn Class Term 6 Week 5

6 July 2025 (by Rebecca Fenwick (rfenwick))

Unicorn Class Blog             Term 6 Week 5               Week Commencing 30th June 2025

Wow, what a great job the Unicorns did on Sports Day on Thursday.

This week as well as taking part in our own Sports day, we have enjoyed listening to stories about other sports days. We discussed different teams and how they sometimes have kits or uniforms to show they are a team such as Nettlebed Community Primary School, nurses, firefighters. Some of us decided to design our own sports team kits and used the card from junk modelling boxes, felt tips, scissors, tape and wool to make our own medals.

Our main maths focus this week has been exploring patterns, we looked for patterns in the environment, repeated patterns using teddy bears and natural resources such as shells, pinecones and sticks. We also noticed that when you recite numbers in order they go up by one and that when you do a rocket countdown the numbers go down by one each time.

During phonics we have been singing nursery rhymes, listening to rhyming stories, playing alliteration games and listening games. We have also been singing the alphabet chant, playing Georgie's gym and recapping letter sounds.

During Forest School children all continued to enjoy using the different rope swings and hammocks. Lots of children enjoyed searching for mini beasts, we found millipedes, woodlice, beetles and we were pleased to see lots of butterflies flying around. We wondered whether our butterflies had laid eggs on some of the stinging nettles. We also continued to enjoy climbing and playing with the hay.

Outside we had continued to do good taking turns and sharing on the balance bikes, used the sand pit, played hide and seek, used the climbing frame to continue strengthening our gross motor skills and played chasing games.

This week we have also enjoyed listening to stories, dressing up, painting, playing with playdough, building with the Mobillo, stickle bricks, Lego and magnetic shapes. Also exploring ice painting, mixing colours and when it had melted carefully scooped and poured the coloured water into containers and pretended we had made cold smoothies.

Next week we are having a teddy bear theme, including preparing for and having a teddy bears picnic.

Hope you are all having a lovely weekend

Best Wishes

Mrs Fenwick
