Unicorn Class Term 6 Week 2

15 June 2025 (by Rebecca Fenwick (rfenwick))

Unicorn Class Blog             Term 6 Week 2               Week Commencing 9th June 2025

Wow, what an exciting week the Unicorn Class have had, with the first coach trip for many children and a visit to Beale Park. The children were very excited to see lots of different animals, real and pretend. Watching the otters, meerkats and their babies were lots of children’s favourites. We went on the train around the park and had a picnic together. (Please see pictures on the slide show).

This week we have enjoyed playing with the farm animals, drawing and painting pictures. We have been singing and taking part with the actions to ‘Sleeping bunnies’, ‘Dingle dangle scarecrow’ and ‘Old MacDonald a farm’.

We have been making space pictures and models. Some of us wanted to make space police stations and space rides similar to in the ‘You Choose Space Book’.

We have been playing ‘Duck, Duck, Goose!’, hide and seek, using the large sandpit, climbing the climbing frame, playing the musical instruments, taking turns on the bikes and scooters. We worked together to use chalk to draw an enormous rocket (The biggest we had ever seen) and space planets. We also used the chalks to practise writing our names. The tools were very popular in the garden.

During phonics we have been rhyming, using alliteration, recapping all of the sounds we have learnt so far, orally segmenting and blending. We have been practising writing the letters, lots of us have wanted to use our letter knowledge to attempt to write on the big whiteboards, note books, pictures a.

During maths this week we have been doing lots of counting, solving real mathematical problems with numbers and linking numerals to amounts.

The home corner has been very busy with children enjoying making delicious food, pretending to be families and looking after the babies. The home corner has also been a café with lots of orders being taken of food, food being prepared and meals being eaten.

This week we have also enjoyed sharing books and pretending to have face and nail painting shops. The use of magnetic shapes, Duplo, Mobillo and Lego has continued to be popular with the small world animals and figures added to make stories around what they had made.

Next week we will be continuing our space theme and we will start practising for Sports Day.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend and look forward to more exploring with you next week.

Best wishes

Mrs Fenwick
