Highflyer Class Term 5 Week118 April 2025 (by Dorothy Wyatt (dwyatt)) |
Weymouth, Dorset. 22 April 2025
Welcome to Term 5 and the start of the summer weeks in school. Our topic focus is learning about what it is like to live by the coast and using Weymouth in Dorset for our coastal town. If you have any stories about visiting there, then please share them in class. It is certainly an interesting coastline with Weymouth beach being declared the safest in the UK; Portland with its' rugged cliffs and at the most southerly point, the famous 'Pulpit Rock', as well as supplying the well-renowned stone for many famous buildings and monuments and then the start of Chesil Beach that stretches from Portland westerly to Lyme Regis, several miles along the Dorset coastline.
Forest School continues on Tuesday and P.E. on Thursday as timetabled.
Please remember to send in your child's planner with their shared reader. Please send in any previous loaned books from school. There are still a few outstanding to be returned.
Our phonic focus is: Week 1 /or/ phoneme spelt ‘a’ before ‘l’ and ‘ll’ (e.g. fall/ball, talk/walk)
Homophones: there/their/they’re
Maths is starting a new unit about fractions - thinking about 'parts' and a 'whole' and then using 'half' and 'quarter' plus using the learning to solve problems. Our mastering number focus is to develop a deeper understanding of strategies to calculate and help problem solve as well.
Also, please remember to return the weekly maths homework by Friday of each week.
Enjoy the first week back
