This week in CHALLENGER
Topic work, Science and English
Last week the children produced some fantastic fact files about the British Isles in their English lessons. They really proved what a lot of information they had absorbed throughout the first weeks of term. In our science lessons we found out about different types of rock and learned how the Giant’s Causeway in Northern Island was formed by volcanic activity millions of years ago.
In English this week, we’ll be continuing with the Giant’s Causeway theme and hear the story of Irish giant, Finn McCool and his feud with the Scottish giant, Benandonner. Children will be writing their own version of this famous folk tale. There will be lots of scope here for using descriptive language and building on their knowledge of adjectives and expanded noun phrases.
Spellings for this week can be found here:
In maths, we’ll continue our addition and subtraction block. This week includes comparing number sentences and using inequality symbols.
Art - Printmaking
In this art block we'll use a variety of techniques for printing and I can't wait to see the results.
House Cross Country
Fingers crossed for some fine weather for next Friday morning when our Inter House Cross Country Race is due to take place. The event will take place within our school grounds only and I will be sure to explain what to expect so as to minimise any concerns they might have. This is a fun event and rule number one is to enjoy it! Children will need to wear their PE Kit and trainers on that day.
HAVE A GREAT WEEK!
