Term 5 Week 1 in Challenger Class

Welcome back to everyone for the start of Term 5. I am delighted that the WHOLE CLASS is coming back all at the same time this term. Whilst not fully back to normal (with many restrictions still in place), it does seem like a far more normal start to the new term than we have experienced recently.
Our new topic is On Our Way – Travel and Transport through the decades. This week will be an introduction to the topic looking at some of the major changes and advances in various types of transport. In English children will be writing information describing and comparing old and new types of transport.
In maths we are beginning a unit on multiplication. Children will begin by revising counting in 2s and 5s and using this knowledge to group objects in order to work out how many. A secure knowledge of the 2s and 5s counts helps them to do this so please help your children to practise this important skill.
For other curriculum and timetable information, please refer to the Term 5 Curriculum and Timetable by clicking on the button at the top of the Challenger Class page.
Spellings for the first two weeks are the Days of the Week and Numbers 1-20 in words. Days of the week will be tested on Friday 23rd April and Numbers 1-20 will be tested on Friday 30th April. Knowledge of both of these word sets are Year 1 Objectives. Children will be working on them over the first two weeks in school but please help them to practise at home as well. If your child already has an excellent grasp of these words, they should also learn spellings for months of the year, seasons and numbers up to 100.
PE will still be on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and children should wear PE kit to school on those days as before.
A word about Show and Tell
We do not have a formal show and tell session in the week but children are welcome to bring things in to show to the class that are relevant to the current topic. They must also be prepared to tell us all about them too.
In addition to this if children have something special to show or share (perhaps something special they have done at the weekend or a piece of writing , artwork or something similar that they have completed at home) they are also welcome to bring this in.
Have a great week!
