Term 2 - Week 1 in Challenger Class

A warm welcome back to Term 2 where our new history topic takes us back to Ancient Greece.

Our introduction this week takes a look at:

  • who were the Ancient Greeks?

  • where did they they live?

  • why we still remember them today.

Writing activities this week focus on the Olympic Games and later in the week children will work in their House groups to find out about Apollo, Hestia, Demeter and Poseidon.

In phonics we are learning about the split digraphs a-e, e-e, i-e, o-e and u-e. Children already know the sounds ae, ee, ie, oe and ue and this week we will find out about words we can make if we split these digraphs with another letter. Eg. hoe - hope, home, hose. Please help your children spot these split digraphs when you are reading with them at home.

Our maths lessons focus on addition:

  • adding together

  • adding more

  • using number bonds to add

  • addition by finding a part of the whole

We will be continuing with our Mastering Number fluency and number sense sessions throughout the week.

PE days are the same as last term; Monday for indoor PE (Dance) and Thursday for Tag Rugby.

Have a wonderful week!
