Investigator Class, Week 4, Term 2

What a busy week last week turned out to be with Bikeability, Odd Sock day, Anti-bullying week and school photos on top of all our normal learning. Congratulations to those in Year 5 who passed their Level 1 and Level 2 Bikeability. It was wonderful to hear from the instructors on Thursday lunchtime how well Investigator Year 5 were conducting themselves out on the roads and their great enthusiasm. Despite getting rather cold I think all enjoyed the experience and should feel more confident on their bikes.

It was great to see the class joining me in wearing odd socks on Monday. The children were very thoughtful in our discussion about why we were wearing odd socks and the importance of respecting our differences. We also had a session later in the week on bullying and this will be followed with more work on reaching out and friendships in the coming weeks.

This next week sees us delving further into why King Alfred is ‘Great’ and using this as our basis of our English work on explanatory texts. I loved the children’s imagination when writing their legend stories last week and hope this good English work continues.

Maths again this week with be focusing on multiplication and division and we have been having a real push on our times tables. It was great to see the children’s enthusiasm when we joined the ‘England Rocks’ challenge on TimesTables Rockstars. I hope they are using this resource at home to improve their accuracy and speed.

Finally, Tuesday this week sees all of the Investigator Year 4 boys involved in a football competition at Langtree. I am looking forward to seeing the boys work as team, representing Nettlebed in the best possible fashion and of course enjoying themselves.
