Investigator Class: Week 1, Term 2

I hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable half term and that the children are ready for what is always a busy time of the year.
This half term we will be starting a new topic on Alfred the Great – the only British king to ever be called ‘Great’. We will be looking at the reasons why he is given such a title and what Britain was like during his reign. This week we will start by placing in him in history and seeing what we can remember or already know about the Vikings. Our class book, Warrior King, is also all about King Alfred and his daughter Fleda. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this over half term and hope the class find it as interesting as I did.
On Monday, along with starting our new topic, we will be looking at some Halloween maths as well as literacy looking at the origins of the day. Literacy for the rest of the week will be focusing on the Suspense genre and the class will write their own suspense story and work on editing it at the end of the week. In maths we will look at area for the rest of the week.
Homework will come home as usual this week to be handed in next week..
