Investigator Class: Term 4, Week 1

Welcome back to school for term 4!

Can you guess our new topic? The children were very excited to find out that we will be diving into the life as a Viking. We will be find out where they cam from, why they raided and invaded and what legacies they left and how this may have influenced society today.

As part of our topic, we will be reading Viking Boy by Tony Bradman. Please do feel free to go ahead and buy your own copy if you wish. Do let me know if you would like me to order your child a school copy.

We have World Book Day this Thursday - we are all dressing up as a character from a book. This is to help the children realise the fun and enjoyment that can be found in reading. We will be having a chat in class about character outfits that we can make at home!

Please could I ask that, whatever your child's reading ability, that they are encouraged to read with daily. This could be an adult reading a good book to them, your child reading a reading book to an adult or the children reading to themselves at night before bed. It not only helps with their reading fluency and comprehension but also their writing. It really is vital in helping all areas of their learning.

We have a last minute addition to our learning this week - we have a day filled with Viking workshops on Friday! We will be off timetable for the day and we will be immersing ourselves into Viking life. Dressing up as a Viking is optional, as is bringing in a Viking shield. We appreciate that two dressing up days in one week is quite a request!

Please ensure the children have a healthy snack - preferably a piece of fruit - for snack time at 10:30, their lunchtime is quite late and if they have a hot lunch, they can be really hungry during maths with no snack.

It really does help them in lessons.

Maths homework to be handed in on Wednesday morning.

English Skills homework to be handed in on Thursday morning.

Spelling Test Thursday!
