Highflyer Class Term 2 Week 4

Week beginning 20 November 2023

We are looking at researching and working on our tourist brochures. We are also starting to practise our performance for the end of term.



Reading

We continue with our shared reader - The Great Escape. Please click here to see more of the types of questions we look at when we read the text. This helps discussion and a deeper understanding as well as searching for evidence of the answers.

Spellings

Spellings are given on a Wednesday to be tested the following Wednesday. They have been stuck in your child's planner for last week. They all share the sound - 'ou and ow'. Please see the link for spellings on the class page.


Phonic Focus

This week is: Suffix -ful (and review words with / or / ore / au / aw/)


Maths

We are continuing the addition and subtraction unit. These are our learning points for this week - focus on subtraction. Using different strategies to help us understand how to:

  • Subtract from a 10

  • 10 more, 10 less

  • Subtract a 1-digit number from a 2-digit number (across a 10)

  • Reasoning and Problem solving

There are also Mastering Number sessions to practice the small steps of understanding number at the beginning of the lesson.

Reminders - Forest School - Term 2

This week is Group 2's first session at Forest School on Tuesday afternoon. Please remember to bring in a full waterproof kit. Please NAME any clothes used for Forest School. Your child will need a change of clothes that cover their arms and legs, waterproofs/wellington boots for wet weather, a hat and drink.

Old clothes are ideal as they will get muddy and torn in the wild area at school.

If your child is NOT doing Forest School presently, all can wear PE kit.


All Year 2 should wear PE kits to school on a Thursday.
