Congratulations
Congratulations to the children in Highflyer class for a very successful first week back at school. They have all been super stars!
We have been looking at WWII, the key events, people, countries, and what is was like to be an evacuee. The grammar focus has been on the use of proper nouns and commas.
If your family has any WWII stories they would like to share please sent them in.
In maths we have been looking at Place Value, recapping on counting forwards and backwards within 50, and tens and ones within 50.
Forest school was fantastic and it was lovely to see the children engaging with nature and strengthening their team building skills. More information can be found in the outdoor learning section of the school website with the title ‘Newt-tastic afternoon’.
We have also looked a lot at PSHE and will continue this each week.
This week we will be looking at the book Otto, autobiography of a teddy bear. Otto is a German born teddy who lives through WWII. The literacy focus will be on descriptive writing, retelling and innovating the story.

Maths will remain on Place Value, learning about comparing numbers up to 50, representing numbers to 100, and using the part-whole model with tens and ones.
The children have been given spellings to learn in their homework folders. They can also be found by clicking on the Year 2 Spelling List button on the Highflyer page. We are on week 2 ‘wr’.
I am really looking forward to another week of learning with such a brilliant class.I hope the children are too!
