Challenger T5 Wk 3
Next week's learning in Challenger
Phonics
The main focus is on the trigraph tch as in stretch and catch
We will also look at alternative pronunciations of the following graphemes:
a - as in wash and squash
ch - as in echo and school
y as in mystery
or as in work
Please look aout for these graphemes as you are reading at home.
Reading
The shared Reader is a non-fiction text called Butterflies.
Learning Objectives:
Reading: Check that the text makes sense to them as they read and correct inaccurate reading.
Writing: Write sentences using the suffix ‘-less’.
Our English lessons will have a Coronation theme this week. Using Banji Alexander's song 'New KIng' as their stimulus children will write what they would do if they were the new king. They will also be creating their own street party invitations.
Maths
We will link addition and subtraction facts within 10 to addition and subtraction with higher numbers.
Children already know that 5 + 3 = 8, so they can make connections and spot patterns in other calculations: 5 + 3 = 8
15 + 3 = 18
25 + 3 = 28 etc.
In Mastering Number, we will reason about the location of numbers to 20 within the linear number system. We'll recap using language such as before, after, between, halfway and midpoint.
Special Events this week
Wednesday - RAF Fly Past - PE kit as usual but please make sure that children have their navy blue jumper or hoodie with them. The school is going to stand in royal cypher formation for the aerial photo opportunity.
Friday - Coronation Lunch Street Party. Children can come to school dressed in red, white and blue. They are also welcome to wear a crown for the day - home made or otherwise.
Have a lovely week!
