Challenger - First Week of 2023

Happy New Year!
Welcome back to Term 3 and the New Year in Challenger Class.
I hope all of you have had a wonderful Christmas holiday and are ready to get started on Term 3.
Our new geography topic is China. We will begin by researching and writing some key facts about this fascinating country.
Phonics and Reading
In Term 3, we begin to look at split vowel digraphs, beginning with a-e. Children already know many words that use these. They will also revise some other less common spellings of the same sound (ey, ei, eigh).
Our new shared reader is number 45 - The Turning of the Year, which sees our characters setting out on a New Year ramble. I particularly like the description of the winter landscape towards the end of the story.
Maths
In maths children identify and name 2D shapes and compose pattern block images. Children may like to spot shapes around the house. We will also continue work on the composition of number in our Mastering Number sessions.
Have a great week everyone!
