Challenger Class Term 5 Week 5

Challenger children have had a super week and it was no surprise that they managed to earn enough house points with their hard work and achievements that they won the class house point competition again!

They showed great interest in our Apollo 11 topic work and produced some impressive writing. They also demonstrated a good grasp of halves and halving in maths.

We finished the week on Friday afternoon with a live link with the heroes of the Henley Fire and Rescue Service. They showed us around their station and practice yard and showed us their various fire fighting and rescue suits and the vast array of equipment that they use. Children had the opportunity to ask questions as well.

Please ask your children the following questions:

  • What should you shout if you hear the 'beep beep beep' of a smoke alarm? Answer: 'Fire, fire, fire!

  • What should you do if your clothes catch on fire? Answer: Stop. Drop Roll

  • How often should you test your smoke alarm? Answer: Once a week - Test it Tuesday

Travel and Transport History Topic

children will learn about the fate of the RMS Titanic, the British passenger liner operated by the White Star Line that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean on 15 April 1912, after striking an iceberg during her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York City. In English children will write a newspaper report about this historic event.
