Challenger Class - Term 5 Week 1

Welcome back to Term 5. I hope that all Challenger families have had a wonderful Easter break. How lovely to have seen some sunshine during the school holidays!

We have a short but busy term ahead of us and I hope the children are raring to set off on the next stage of their Year 1 learning.

The topic for this term is 'Our Local Area' where we will be looking at these key areas:

  • Using simple fieldwork and observstional skills to study the geography and the key human and physical fetaures of our local area.

  • Understanding maps and following a route.

  • Transport in our local area.

We have several trips planned for this term - some in the immediate area ( a local walk, a church tour and a trip to the Creamery) and one down to the River and Rowing Museum in Henley, later in the term. In this first week back the class will go on a local walk with the purpose of identifying the key physical and human features of the village.

In maths, we are beginning a unit of work on unitising, beginning with counting in 2s, 5s and 10s and how we can use these skills in real life.

PE continues to be on Monday and Thursday and children should wear their PE kits to school on those days.

I will continue to set homework weekly in spellings, maths and phonics. This is in addition to the expectaiton that children should be reading at home (ideally on a daily basis).

Please remember those fresh water bottles daily as (fingers crossed) we welcome a period of more settled, warmer weather.

Have a great term everyone!
