Challenger Class T6 Wk1

Welcome back to school for our final term of the year. I can't believe we are here already and looking forward to the packed term ahead.

Our topic for the term is Global Citizenship and we begin this week by finding out how children's lives in different places around the world are similar or different to our own.

Using the CAFOD publication 'A Day in the LIfe of Musa' we will find out about his life in Bangladesh and compare it with Nettlebed pupils' lives. Family and friends in other countries will be invited to tell us about their lives - I wonder what questions we could ask them. (Please see details in a separate email.)

Phonic Screening for all of Year 1 takes place in this first week back. Children have worked hard on phonics all year and have made super progress and I know they will do their best this week. The assessment will be carried out by me on a 1:1 basis at some point in the week. Children should not be concerned about it - it will be carried out in a low key, non- stressful way although obviously I will encourage children to try their hardest and show me their best phonic knowledge and reading skills.

In maths, we begin the term with a look at fractions. Children will find out about halves and quarters of shapes, objects and amounts.

In our Mastering Number sessions, we will review the composition of 6, 7, 8 and 9.

PE is on the same days (Monday and Thursday) and children should wear their PE KIts on those days.

Hats and Suncream

As we move into the summer months, I hope we can expect some warm and sunny weather. Please make sure that children have sun hats and suncream (already applied before they come to school) if the weather demands it.

Have a great week, everyone!
