Term 4 Week 4 Spellings

This week focuses on the prefix 'in' which is added to root words to give the opposite meaning. The prefix varies depending on the root word; when the root word begins with an 'm' or a 'p' it changes to 'im' and when the root word begins with an 'l' the prefixes changes to 'il'.

Term 4 Week 3 Spellings

The spellings this week contain two different spelling patterns that show their origin in the French language. Some end in 'gue' making a simple 'g' sound and the others end in 'que' that makes a simple 'ck' sound.

Term 3 Week 1 Spellings

This week, the spellings are homophones. These are words that sound the same but are spelled differently and have different meanings. Context is key to these words and we will be working on a lot of dictation exercises to put them into sentences and I'd suggest this would be a good way to practise at home as well.

There are a number of common exception words this week (including the always difficult 'through' and 'special') and also nouns ending in -sion. These are formed from verbs ending in -de or -se.
