The
school curriculum
is designed to meet the needs of all children from the age of 4 to 11. It takes into account children of all abilities and backgrounds.
Children enter school at age 4 and followthe Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. This is child-centred
and gives children opportunities to follow their own ideas and interests through structured play and develop
new skills through teacher led activities.
From Year 1 to Year 6 we comply with the requirements of the National Curriculum and deliver a broad and balanced curriculum in English, Maths, Science, Information Technology, History, Geography, Music,Art, Design Technology, P.E., PSHCE, MFL and Religious Education is taught from the Oxfordshire agreed syllabus.
An assembly is held every day which varies in format and is mainly Christian in content.
The
school
has
successfully
implemented
the
National
Literacy
and
Numeracy
strategies. Each
class
devotes
an
hour
to
each
of
these
every
day. We
continuously
review
our
practice
and
seek
ways
to
improve
the
delivery
of
all
areas
of
the
curriculum.
In
keeping with good
primary practice,
many aspects of the
curriculum are delivered
using cross-curricular
topics which help
the children make
sense of the world
around them. As
the children get
older, the work
is more clearly defined
into separate subjects
to allow more in-depth
studies. We
seek to use the
enthusiasm and
interest of the
children to encourage
them to do their
very best to achieve
a high standard
of independent
learning.
We
use a variety of
teaching styles
appropriate to the
age and needs of
the children. The
children may be
taught as a whole
class, in groups
or individually. Children
are grouped in
many different ways
to assist with their
learning. They
may be grouped by
ability, by age,
in friendship groups
or groups of similar
ability.
The
work is well planned
and differentiated
to challenge all
children. We
continually assess
the children and set
new targets with them
so that their learning
leads them on to the
next level. Progress
is discussed twice
a year with parents
and they are sent
an annual report detailing
their child’s
progress.
We
are continually reviewing
and updating our curriculum
policies and schemes
of work which are
available for parents
to read at any time.
